We are now on week three of our daily gratitude to changing our lives. How have you all been getting on?

This week we are going to look at more specific things like health and relationships. As we learnt earlier in the series we can use gratitude to attract the things we want, so if health ins’t how you would like it now, affirm it how you would like it to be, same with relationships, money, job etc  etc.

Day 14

Be thankful for your health. Say thank you that you are  fit and healthy and that every cell in your body is perfect. Thank your arms and legs, senses, brain and every part of your body for working efficiently.

Day 15

Have a fantastic day. When you wake up thank for universe for a fantastic day. Visualise the things you have to do that day, see each appointment, client, event  going well and say thank you.

Day 16

Look at relationships around you, is there a relationship that isn’t all it could be or problematic. List 10 things that you are grateful for about that person. Now this maybe a bit tricky, especially if you are feeling hurt or angry, but it is well worth it! When you have written your list imagine the person standing in front of you and read it out.

Day 17

Forgive yourself – Forgive yourself for anything you feel is not helping you to live in the present moment. It could be anything from not loving yourself, not being patient in a certain situation, not letting go of the past etc. When we forgive we let go of anger, resentment, hurt and we allow love back into our lives.

Day 18

Love yourself. Look in the mirror and thank yourself for being you. Say thank you for your beautiful eyes, hair and smile, your personality and your confidence. Thank everything about yourself. Do this every time you pass a mirror.

Day 19

What do you want to achieve this week? Write of list of things that you would like to do this. Include the jobs that need doing, time for yourself, time with your partner, job or house hunting, study etc. As you Please comment below and share with your friends.

We are now on week 2 of gratitude to change your life. How did you get on with week one? Have you started to see positive changes?

So this week we will be adding to what we learnt last week. Keep using some of the tools from last week that worked well for you and keep writing in your gratitude journal.

Day 7:

We need to learn to appreciate the people around us. Choose photos of 3 of your friends or family and stick them in your journal, now in turn write down at least 5 things that you appreciate about them and thank them for what they bring into your life. Eg. Thank you Kate for your patience and understanding. I am thankful for the laughter and happiness you bring me Kate.

Day 8:

Today is about changing your mind set from negative to positive. Try to find a positive in every situation Naturally we all talk about what is going wrong in our lives or what is missing rather than be grateful for what we do have. For example we may be struggling to find a job but we could be grateful that it allows us more free time to deal with other things.

Day 9:

Most of us are struggling with finances as we are just getting over Christmas. Be grateful every time you receive money, whether it is a small discount on something, someone paying you back or a penny you find on the street. Really feel gratitude for this small financial gain, no matter how small it is. As you are feeling the gratitude you will attract more abundance.

Day 10:

Waking up with a positive attitude is the best way to start your day. When you wake say thank you, on your way to the bathroom say thank you for the water you are about to use, the air you breath. As you get ready for your day say thank you in advance for the good day you will have. Practice saying thank you all day for every little thing.

Day 11:

Today we are going to find a gratitude rock, stone or crystal. It needs to feel nice in the palm of your hand. When you have found your perfect stone keep it with you until you go to bed and before going to sleep, close your eyes and visualize the best thing that happened to you today, when you have finished say thank you and place the stone on your bedside table. Do this every night for the next 30 nights.

Day 12:

Be grateful for your job, even if you are unemployed or hate your job. Make a list of the things that do make you happy, good workmates, friendly staff, all the tools you need to enable you to do your job etc. The more you are grateful for the more things the universe can bring in for you to be grateful for.

Day 13:

Its time to get on top of the bills! Find some old bills that you have already paid and feel grateful that you have been able to pay them and say thank you for the services that they provided you with. Now write on them, thank you – paid. Now on every new bill you receive either write thank you paid or if you are struggling to pay them write on them thank you for the money and have faith that the money will arrive.

Please comment below and share with your friends.

Public spirited Official column – Gratitude to changing your life.

So far we have looked at all the tools available to us to help us to move forwards with our lives, leave the past behind and starting enjoying the present. It is now time to put some of the tools into practice, so over the coming 60 days we will be working with these tools and seeing what works best for us and how incorporating a few easy steps can make us feel happier, grateful, less stressed and able to live in the present.

Now is a good time to start a journal to keep track of your progress. I find it helpful looking back at how you were feeling the previous month and how far you have come in such a short time.

So here are this weeks steps, a day at a time, incorporate as many of these steps in your week as possible and keep a record of how they made you feel as you completed them.

Day 1

Get your journal and decorate it if you wish.

Day 2

Write in your journal 10+ things you were grateful for today. You can add how they made you feel, why you were grateful for them or any other information you would like to add. This step should be completed everyday.

Day 3

When someone around you does something for you, thank them and add a compliment. This will brighten someone elses day and you will also feel good. Eg, Thanks for the coffee, that jumper suits you and  brings out the colour in your eyes.

Day 4

Get in the habit of saying thank you every time you feel grateful, you can just say it in your head or write it down.

Day 5

Today we are going to be grateful for our self- confidence, whether we are confident or not. Write an affirmation that resonates with you and repeat as many times a day as you can. Eg I am grateful that i am confident and bold.

Day 6

Believing in yourself – Have faith in yourself that you can change anything you wish too. By having the belief in yourself that you can overcome your fears and worries. You can use an affirmation if you would like to i.e . I can do anything I want to, I am grateful that i believe in myself.

Please feel free to leave any comments or experiences below. I will be back next week with day 7 – 13.

Now that we have looked at a few different tools that can be used to help us to make some major changes in our lives, we are going to start to use them over the following weeks.

This week we are going to work with a gratitude stone. You can choose a pebble, a stone, a crystal or anything else you feel drawn to. It needs to fit into the palm of your hand and fit easily in your pocket, other than that the choice is yours.

How to use your gratitude stone:

Hold your stone in the palm of your hand and start to think about the things you are grateful for. Lets say you are thinking about your family, think about the wonderful times you have spent together and how grateful you are for those people and experiences.

Doing this on a regular basis will also help you to bring in more things to be grateful for via the law of attraction, because like attracts like.

Each night take your gratitude stone and hold it whist writing or saying a list of things you are grateful that day, really put though and feeling in to your list. When you do this on a regular basis you will start to associate gratitude and positivity with your stone. If at anytime you are feeling low or negative you can hold on to your stone and bring yourself back to a more positive place with your charged stone.

Gratitude to heal you life – Fear

Fear can play a major part in our lives and can also stop us from progressing with our life path. When we look at our daily lives most of us will have fear of something. Generally this fear will stop us from doing. Fear can result from many issues fear of commitment, fear of the unknown, fear of failure…… By overcoming our fears we are dealing with issues that can keep us stagnated and living in the past.
Overcoming fear doesn’t happen instantly or automatically. Action is required and it is a result of our deliberate intention to overcome the fear we have. As we tackle fear head on we grow as people and expand the possibilities that surround us in life.
Overcoming fear is a skill that anyone can learn. The problem is that most people cling to their fears, because it’s part of who they are and the fear of change can sometimes be perceived as worse that the fear that they are trying to overcome, therefore it becomes a vicious circle.

When we look at our fears we need to look at our lives as a whole. Let’s say we have a fear of getting hurt by relationships, because we have been hurt by a past partner. We know that the hurt we endured pain at the time and that we do not want to feel this again, so we close our hearts down and don’t let anyone in. This fear is stopping any kind of happiness from entering our lives. Let’s face it we all need to be in a loving relationship, to have someone there to love us unconditionally. But the fear of “hurt” is stopping that from happening. It is stopping us from moving forward with our life and stopping us from finding happiness and the loving committed relationship which we crave. If we can find a way to control this we would be moving forward and living in the present and in turn make room for happiness. When we have overcome one fear it makes it easier to overcome other fears too. What do you have to lose?

Ways to overcome fear

Before you can overcome you fears you need to know exactly what you are afraid of. Take a good look at the pictures that come to mind when you think of your fear, how do you feel about them? How do you perceive them? then put them into perspective.

Believing in yourself
Have faith in yourself that you can change anything you wish too. By having the belief in yourself that you can overcome your fears you are sending that message out to the universe and in turn the universe will send you more thoughts of believing in yourself. (law of attraction)

Forgiveness is a tool that can be used in almost all circumstances. Most of our fears stem from things we have experienced in our lives. By forgiving these situations we are letting go of the feelings associated with the experiences, allowing us to move forward from the situation.

Gratitude is a very powerful tool. Whenever you feel fear, switch it over to what you are grateful for instead. If you’re afraid of public speaking, be grateful for the opportunity to communicate with so many people, and that they are there to genuinely listen to what you have to say.
Positive thought
When we are driven by fear we are looking at the negative, by changing our thoughts and feelings around the situation to positive we can overcome the fear, so instead of thinking about the worst scenario that could happen, think about the most positive thing that could happen.

Affirmations are positive statements that, when repeated frequently can change our subconscious. Using positive affirmations can help you to overcome any fear. Let’s say you have a fear of failure a good affirmation would be “I am successful”.

Writing down our fears can help us to understand them and our thoughts and feelings about them. When we write them down we are stopping them from spinning round and round in our heads.

Reading books on the fears we carry can help to give us clearer understanding of our fears and where they may stem from. Enabling us to start to deal with them.

Professional help
There are many therapies that can help us to overcome our fears if they are deep rooted including Hypnosis, EFT, Reiki and life coaching.

Talking about our fears to others can help us to start to put them into perspective and you may just find you are talking to someone who has the same fears as you.

Ask yourself if there is something you are meant to learn from this fear, what is your fear trying to tell you. Listen to your thoughts and feelings.

Have control
Stop playing the victim and take back control.

Take Action
Your fears are not going to just disappear, you will need to take action in order to overcome them.

When our fears come up take action immediately, acknowledge, release and heal. You can use any of the tools we have previously looked at including affirmations, positive though and gratitude.

Until next week

Most of us have been hurt or wronged by people we love or care about.  Maybe you have been criticized by parents, cheated on by a spouse or, constantly told you are stupid by the people around you. Whether they hurt us by actions or words the effects can cause us to feel bitter and resentful.  It is when we hold on to these feelings that we start to cause ourselves problems and this can leave us with lasting feelings of anger, bitterness or wanting revenge.

What is forgiveness?

Forgiveness is a conscious decision to let go of resentment, bitterness, anger and thoughts of revenge.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean that you deny the other person’s responsibility for hurting you, and it doesn’t minimize or justify the wrong. You can forgive the person without excusing the act. Forgiveness brings a kind of peace that helps you move forwards with your life releasing resentment and pain.

The act that hurt or offended you might always remain a part of your life, but forgiveness will help to alleviate its grip on you and help you focus on other more positive parts of your life. Forgiveness can also help you to understand and offer feelings of empathy and compassion for the person who hurt you. Forgiveness also stops you looking back at past events and allows you to focus on the Present.

What are the benefits of forgiving someone?

Letting go of hurt, anger, pain and bitterness can make way for compassion, kindness, understanding and peace.

Forgiveness can also lead to:

Healthier, happier relationships.

Less anxiety, stress and hostility.

Lower blood pressure.

Fewer symptoms of depression and sadness.

Lower risk of alcohol and substance dependency.

The ability to live in the present and stop focusing on the past.

What are the effects of carrying this hurt and pain?

When we are unable to forgive the person who wronged us we will repeatedly bring the same scenario’s into our lives, relationships and experiences. If you become so wrapped up in the wrong you will never enjoy the present or the future. This can often lead to depression and often alcohol dependency which will numb the constant pain. The pain you are carrying can also stop you feeling that your life has purpose or that you are of value and loved by others.

When we carry around anger, frustration, un-forgiveness and pain our energy levels are of a low vibration. When we live on a low vibration we attract people on a low vibration, thus bringing forwards the same kind of relationships we have previously experienced, so nothing will change. As we forgive and change we will higher our vibration and attract people on a higher vibration, changing our experiences and our relationships.

How to forgive?

By forgiving you are committing to change, letting go of negativity, releasing fear and living in the present.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Look at the situation honestly and how it is affecting your everyday life, health and well-being. Do you want this person to still be in control of your life or are you going to take back control and stop playing the victim?

How will forgiving this person change your everyday life? Will it allow you to make the changes you need too to start enjoying you life?

When you’re ready, actively choose to forgive this person who’s hurt or wronged you so that you can move forwards with your life.

Move away from your role as victim and release the control and power the offending person and take back control.

As you let go of hurt and pain you will no longer define your life by how you’ve been hurt in the past. You will be living in the present and planning your future. You might even find compassion and understanding for others.

Use Gratitude and affirmations to help give you the strength you need to let go and forgive others as well as yourself.

“I am grateful i can forgive myself for my mistakes.”

” Thank you for helping me to release my hurt and anger.”

“I am grateful that i have taken back control of my life, i am no longer a victim and i can forgive everyone that has caused me pain, hurt or suffering.”

What if the person I’m forgiving doesn’t change?

Getting another person to change his or her actions, behavior or words isn’t the point of forgiveness, we all have fee will. Think of forgiveness more about how it can change your life, by bringing you peace, happiness, and emotional and spiritual healing. Forgiveness can take away the power the other person continues to have in your life.

Forgiveness is about you and moving your life forwards, not the person who wronged you.

If you are constantly looking at the past, how can you enjoy your present and build your future???

Until next week,

Suzi 🙂

Positive Thinking

This week we are looking as positive thought and how our thoughts affect our moods and feelings.

Positive thinking is key to our happiness and enjoyment of life, as well as helping us to be able to live in the present. When our thoughts are positive we bring positivity to other aspects of our lives including positive feelings, positive body language and we are also able to bring positivity to others, as well as increasing our own optimism. The more positive we are, the more positivity we bring to ourselves through the law of attraction, which we  have already discussed in another article.

Negative thoughts on the other hand can be quiet destructive. Not only do they drain your energy and keep you from enjoying the present moments they can also snowball into negative emotions and fear, the more you give into them the stronger they become. Once the negative thought patterns have started it is hard to stop them and it can be difficult to shift your focus to positive thoughts.

When we have negative thoughts about certain situations the whole situation can escalate and before you know it, your whole day, week, month and year has become negative.

For example, you are sitting alone in the dark at home. You are down, depressed and thinking negative thoughts. The phone rings and it’s a friend you haven’t talked to in a while. You become alert, your mood and feelings change and becomes more positive, you have a nice conversation. Then, after you’ve hung up, you get blue again and fall back into a depressed mood. Why?

Because we have let negative thoughts and emotions come back in. We control our thoughts and emotions, we can decide to stay up or down. We can go back and sit in the dark and feel glum or we can decide to find something positive to do to keep our mood positive.

As we begin to change our thoughts to positive thoughts we start to feel better. If we take positive action to change the way we think and feel , we will feel better. The focus should be on being happy now – not when you have a promotion, new job, etc. etc. Happiness is a result of a decision to be happy.

Every thought we have is sent out into the universe, whether that thought is positive or negative, but whatever we send out is what the universe sends back to us. For Example, if you think a lot about debt, how much debt you have, guess what, the universe sends us more debt. If on the other hand we spend a lot of time thinking about the things we are grateful for, the universe sends us more things to be grateful for. Every emotion and feeling we have is created by our thoughts, so as you can see positive thought is paramount to our happiness.

Our past thoughts and emotions are exactly that, they are the past and are not in our present. Today is a new day, a better day, and worrying about the past just dooms us in the present. It’s how you process it now that makes a difference. Take a good look at the negative thoughts that appear every day, process them, forgive them and let go of them!

Here are some practical ideas to help you shift your thought patterns. By practising some of these things on a daily basis you can turn negative thoughts and emotions around.

Yoga and exercise.
Exercise is a distraction that can get you away from the cycle of negative thoughts that among other things feed anxiety and depression, it also helps relieve stress. It also releases ‘feel good’ chemicals in the brain (endorphins), which will improve your mood and as a result you will feel more energised.
Yoga is a particularly good exercise. It seeks to promote individual health and well-being through physical and mental exercise and deep relaxation.
Smiling / laughter.
Laughter really helps to change your mood and relieve stress. Put on your favourite funny movie, watch a comedian who will make you laugh or spend some time with friends. It takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown!
Surround yourself with positive people.
When you’re stuck in a negative spiral, talk to and spend time with people who can put things into perspective( those who won’t feed your negative thinking). In other words those who will not allow you to dwell in self-pity.
Change the tone of your thoughts from negative to positive.
Instead of looking at all the negatives in your life, find a positive aspect in every situation and focus on that. Instead of dwelling on things you have lost or don’t have, be grateful for the things that you do have and in turn focus on those thoughts.
Don’t play the victim. You create your life—take responsibility.
You have choices and you can choose to be happy. Take responsibility for your thoughts, your life and your decisions. Take action and make the changes you need, no one else can do it for you!

Help someone.
Take the focus away from yourself and do something nice for another person. It will take you mind off of your problems and you will feel a sense of achievement at doing something worthwhile
Remember that no one is perfect and let yourself move forward.
We all make mistakes but it is what we learn from them that is important. If we dwell on and analyse these mistakes over and over again then we are not learning as this analysis keeps us in the past. Look at the mistakes, forgive them and move on.

Singing / Music.
When we sing, we show our feelings and this provides an amazing stress relief. It doesn’t matter what we sing, or if we know all the words, just sing! Music can also change our moods drastically, by playing depressing music it will keep us in a depressed mood, however if you change the music to something more upbeat it is very hard to stay miserable. Dancing can also help immensely, for example when doing the housework put on some upbeat music, sing, dance and let your emotions out, the housework then is also not a chore and you feel much better, more energised and more focused.

List ten things that you are grateful for right now. Being grateful helps us to appreciate what you already have, it also helps the universe to bring us more things to be grateful for. It also turns our thoughts to positive thoughts and stops us dwelling on what we don’t have. Use Gratitude throughout the day, even for the smallest of things, start from the minute you get up. (please see the article on gratitude.)

Read positive quotes / Affirmations.
Affirmations are a very powerful tool. They are positive statements, which when repeated, program the subconscious mind to create changes and improvement in your life. They trigger the subconscious mind into positive action. In order to ensure the effectiveness of the affirmations, they have to be repeated with attention, conviction, feeling, interest and desire.
Here are a couple of sample affirmations, ideally you should make your own using words that resonate with you.
“I am happy, confident and have everything that I need”
“I am grateful for the start of a new day”
“I am free to be who I want to be, Thank you”

Until next week,
